Athen (AP) Bei Ausgrabungsarbeiten im März wurde in Athen von deutschen Archäologen ein neues Meisterwerk des Dipylos gefunden, wie Wolf-Dietrich Niemeier, Direktor des DAI Athen Anfang Mai bekanntgab. Die Statue war wahrscheinlich einmal 2,10 Meter groß und stammt aus der archaischen Zeit. Eine der bisher entdeckten Dipylon-Statuen befindet sich im Athener Nationalmuseum, die zweite im New Yorker Metropolitan Museum. Letztere weist eine große Ähnlichkeit mit dem neugefundenen Kouros auf. Zur gleichen Zeit wurden auch zwei Löwenstatuen und eine Sphinx gefunden.
